Presidents from the Ohio College Initiative

Convened at the Ohio Governor’s Residence to

Discuss Reducing High-Risk Drinking  

Twenty-eight colleges and universities were represented at the annual Presidents’ meeting of the Ohio College Initiative to Reduce High-Risk Drinking.  This year it was held at the Ohio Governor’s Residence.  First Lady of Ohio, Frances Strickland, welcomed 35 individuals to her home on December 10 to discuss the importance of modifying student drinking behaviors. Drug-Free Action Alliance Welcomes

New Communications Director  

Drug-Free Action Alliance is pleased to announce Michelle Morse as the agency’s new Communications Director.  

Morse joined the Drug-Free Action Alliance team in early 2009, as a project director for the Know! initiative, a program empowering parents to raise their children to be substance-free.

Youth Philanthropy Grants are

Awarded to 6 Youth Groups


Drug-Free Action Alliance’s Youth Philanthropy Council has selected six youth groups to receive a total of $4,450 in grants for student lead prevention projects.  The funds are made available through the Ohio Elks Association and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.  Click here for full article.

 

Grassroots Organization to Change Ohio's Revised Code

on Social Hosting Laws

The Coalition to Amend Ohio’s Social Host Law (CAOSHL) is proud to announce the introduction of HB 351 - their proposed amendment to Sections 4301.69 (B) and 4301.99 of the Ohio Revised Code, which changes the culpability standard (criminal liability) of the Statute to now hold adults (other than parents/legal guardians) accountable in cases where they should have known that underage alcohol consumption was likely to occur or recklessly allowed it to happen. HB 351 is sponsored by Rep. Bolon, and co-sponsored by Reps. Williams, S., Phillips, Amstutuz and Gardner. Click here for full article.    

2009 Monitoring the Future Survey Released

The University of Michigan issued a press release on its latest findings from the 2009 Monitoring the Future Survey.  This annual survey monitors youth use of marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drugs and inhalants in addition to the perceptions of risk and perceived availability of the substances.
