Drug Free 24/7: A Year Round Commitment

Prevention should be an integral part of every holiday, special event and celebration. And, because alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse is so connected to other health issues and social problems, prevention should be an integral part of campaigns, initiatives and commemorations focused on specific health, social and cultural issues.

The events, commemorations, and special occasions listed for each month are options for communities to consider utilizing when implementing social marketing campaigns and strategies. Some are applicable across all age groups, while others have a more natural focus on a youth audience.

Recommendation

Start the Drug Free 24/7 year in October with a Red Ribbon Kick-off. Then choose at least one observance each month to integrate with the Drug Free 24/7 message.

Red Ribbon Kick-off

Communities, schools, and organizations have often placed the spotlight on alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention during Red Ribbon Week, held annually from the 23rd through 31st of October.

Drug Free 24/7 provides the means for communities, schools, and organizations to expand on the goals and activities of Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week can be used as the kick-off to a year-long social marketing campaign. Drug Free 24/7 materials, signage, and imagery can also be infused into your campaign as a way to brand or anchor both your kick-off and year-long social marketing initiative.
